Why Windshield Repair Is Our First and Your Best Option

Windshield Repair Means You Spend Less Money

Repairing damaged auto glass typically costs a lot less than replacing an entire windshield. And most insurance companies also cover your deductible, making windshield repair the economical solution.

Windshield Repair Is More Environmentally Friendly

It's easy to just toss a damaged windshield out instead of troubleshooting its break. But vehicles’ windshields are difficult to recycle, and unnecessary replacement means more auto glass needlessly tossed into your local landfill. We don't like easy, especially at the expense of the environment.

Our Windshield Repair Saves You Time

At NOVUS Glass, we know you’re busy enough as it is between work, running errands and shuttling the kids to and from school and extracurricular activities. When your vehicle’s windshield needs repair, we make sure you don't have to put your day on hold. Many windshield repairs take just a fraction of an hour. Just contact NOVUS Glass and our friendly windshield repair technicians will have you back on the road in no time.

Windshield Repair Preserves Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

Many new vehicle models come equipped with an ADAS – a family of safety systems that allows your vehicle to automate and enhance safety functions. Your vehicle’s ADAS can alert you to potential problems on the road and help you avoid accidents. Features include collision avoidance assistance to alert you when you’re too close to another vehicle, automatic braking to help you avoid collisions and adaptive cruise control to react to the speed of the vehicles around you. Since ADAS sensors are often placed in your vehicle’s windshield, repairing the damage helps preserve these systems.

Our Windshield Repair Services are Backed by a Lifetime Guarantee

Facts About Your Vehicle’s Windshield

Ever wonder how your car’s windshield is made or how it works? If so, check out our quick rundown on windshields.

Windshields are Made of Multiple Layers

While different automotive brands have distinct methods for making the windshields that go on their cars, trucks and SUVs, they all follow a similar formula. To the untrained eye, your car’s windshield may look like a single piece of glass, but it’s actually three layers fused together.

Windshields are comprised of a very thin layer of poly-vinyl butyral (PVB) placed between two sheets of tempered glass. Then, the layers are heated and pressed between rollers. This makes the PVB transparent and fuses all three layers into a single slab. The windshield is then fitted to the vehicle using special primers, adhesives and sealants containing polyurethane.

Windshields are Designed to Keep You Safe in an Accident

The windshield’s PVB layer serves a very important purpose for keeping you and your passengers safe. During a collision, the PVB provides anti-shatter protection and keeps shards of glass from flying back into the vehicle. Windshields are also designed with other safety features in mind like keeping the roof of the vehicle from caving in during a rollover and supporting the deployment of the passenger-side airbag.

Your Windshield Supports Your Vehicle’s ADAS

Before the windshield is fitted to the vehicle, the manufacturer may also attach sensors into the glass to help support your vehicle’s ADAS. As we mentioned before, the systems that comprise your vehicle’s ADAS are designed to help keep you safe while driving by automating a variety of functions. ADAS uses inputs from a variety of data sources including the sensors in the windshield to support functions like:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Adaptive light control
  • Automatic braking
  • Blind spot detection
  • Collision avoidance systems
  • Night vision

Windshields Keep You Cool

Many windshields use infrared-reflective (IR) glass to filter up to 50 percent of the infrared waves from sunlight while allowing visible light through so you can still see. Reflecting infrared rays helps cool down the inside of your car and protects you from burning your skin on overheated leather components in your vehicle like the seats and steering wheel. IR glass also allows you to take it easy on the AC and increase your vehicle’s fuel efficiency.

These are all terrific features, but they only work if your windshield is healthy and damage-free. If you notice any chips or cracks, contact NOVUS Glass as soon as possible to learn more about our windshield repair services.
